Volunteer

Volunteers at the Gallo Center for the Arts play a very special role and are essential to our success! Volunteers act as theater ushers, ticket office aides, facility tour guides, greeters, and receptionists, to name a few. Our volunteers provide Gallo Center for the Arts visitors and patrons with timely, accurate and consistent information about the Center's programs and activities, and are a primary source of administrative assistance behind the scenes.

In order to run the theater efficiently and create a high quality theater experience for each patron, we ask that each volunteer commit to complete the training sessions and one full year of service as a Gallo Center for the Arts volunteer.

If you are an energetic, outgoing, professional individual who is interested in working as a team with other community volunteers, please complete and submit the following form to join the volunteer team at the Gallo Center for the Arts.

Ushers

Volunteer ushers stuff programs with announcements, tear tickets at doors, show patrons to their seats, pass out programs, answer questions and are important to the smooth operation of our performances. In exchange for approximately two hours of their time before and during a show, volunteer ushers are permitted to stay and watch the show for free. Even so, it is important to remember that volunteer ushers are considered to be staff, not patrons. If you are interested only in seeing performances, we recommend that you purchase a season subscription.

Usher Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have the ability to stand for 3 to 5 hours (volunteer seating may not be available during performances).*
  • Must have a tolerance to heights (you may be assigned duties on the Grand Tier - the second level).
  • Must be punctual. Call time for all volunteer ushers is usually one and a half hours prior to curtain time.
  • Will be required to wear a uniform.
  • Must me willing to work an average of three events per month. This may include ticketed or non-ticketed (i.e. meetings) events.**

*If you require the use of a wheelchair, there are certain volunteer positions that you can request to accommodate your needs.
** Volunteers are sent a selection calendar from which they select events to usher. Some events are required, and some are assigned randomly based on demand.
