Usher Supervisor – Event Based ONLY

The Gallo Center for the Arts is designed to enrich the quality of life in California’s Central Valley by providing an inspirational civic gathering place where regional, national and international cultural activities illuminate, educate and entertain. The complex houses the Mary Stuart Rogers Theater (1,240 seats), the Foster Family Theater (436 seats.) The arts center is a $60 million partnership between Stanislaus County and Central Valley Center for the Arts.
Job Description
The Usher Supervisor, a part-time position, is responsible for the smooth flow of patron seating at each event, patron safety, and service for all patrons. Supervising a corps of volunteer ushers, the Usher Supervisor will be in close contact with production, concessions, and the ticket office in order to ensure a quality visit for every patron to the Gallo Center for the Arts.
Must have flexible schedule with nights and weekend availability.
Specific Responsibilities
- Train volunteer ushers in cooperation with the House Manager
- Develop, practice, and evaluate emergency evacuation procedures
- Create a positive and enthusiastic environment and team approach with each usher corps
- Monitor and maintain the appropriate uniform attire for the volunteer ushers
- Ensure the prompt starting of every show
- Submit supervisor notes for every performance, and submit the report to the House Manager
- Motivate volunteer ushers to serve patrons well
- Adhere to the Customer Service Mission Statement for the Center
- Ensure the cleanliness of every usher uniform
- Conduct ongoing training program with ushers
- Provide all show information to the ushers prior to taking assignments
- Must be very knowledgeable about the Center, its history, the location of every room, and the schedule of events
- Conduct an usher meeting prior to every performance
- Prepare assigned lobby and theater with the specifics of the event requirements
- Assist with resolving any issues or confrontations with patrons and/or volunteers
- Responsible for maintain flow and function of assigned area including volunteers and patrons

- Able to be prompt at all times
- Able to build a team
- Strong listening skills
- Able to climb stairs quickly
- Preferably bi-lingual
- Must be able to lift 25-30 lbs.
- Must be available to work nights and weekends
